چکیده

Anthropogenic activities cause pollution of soil, groundwater, sediments, surface water, air with unsafe and noxious chemicals is one of the main crises facing the industrialized world today. Over the last century, public apprehension about environmental pollution has increased remarkably. Now a days, polluted soils and waters as a result of global industrialization pose a major environmental and human health problem, which can not be easily solved, even in the rich industrialized countries. Classical remediation technologies are mostly found inadequate to solve the problem and to redevelop sites for housing, agriculture or recreation. Application of plants metabolic potential is accepted as an environmentally benign and economical measure for decontamination of polluted environment. Transgenic approaches successfully employed to promote phytoextraction of metals and metalloids from soil by their account in the above-ground biomass involved mainly implementation of metal transporters improved production of enzymes of sulphur metabolism and production of metal detoxifying Cheatersmetallothionine and phytochelatin.

Limiting and Experimental Factors

Practical applications of phytoremediation are essential for the clean-up of moderately and severely contaminated sites in an economical and environmentally responsible way. The usage of plants to do a job that would otherwise be done by chemicals or energy intensive soil removal is a natural choice on several levels. First, by using plants for clean-up, pollutants are being absorbed by nature ...

Role of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) Fungi in Phytoremediation of Soils Contaminated: A Review

Pollution of the soil environment with toxic materials from fossil burning, mining and smelting of metalliferous ores, disposal of sewage, fertilizers and pesticides, etc. has increased dramatically since the onset of industrial revolution. Application of plants with ability of absorbing heavy metals is a low-cost alternative for eliminating soils from heavy metals. Phytoremediation uses plants...

Bioaccumulation of Nickel and Lead by Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) and Tall Fescue (Festuca arundinacea) from Two Contaminated Soils

Soil and sediments of the estuaries and wetlands in Northwest of Persian Gulf are recently polluted with different heavy metals because of municipal and industrial wastewaters. Therefore an urgent soil cleaning up and remediation program is vital in this region. Consequently, this study was initiated to screen two plant species (Festuca arundinacea and Cynodon dactylon) for hyperaccumulation of...

Phytoremediation is one of the best methods for cleaning heavy metal contaminated soils. In this method, tolerant plants with high absorption potential are used to clean up the pollutant. The purpose of this greenhouse study was to find the most suitable plants with the highest Zn translocation factor and shoot concentration. Soil samples were collected from zinc and lead Bama mine in Isfahan p...
